(Junior) IT Support Specialist – Deep Tech Company (f/m/d)

Stuttgart
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your mission

Location: Stuttgart, Germany
Type: Full-time, permanent employment, 1-2 remote days per week

The future of AI computing builds on light. Q.ANT is building photonic processing systems that compute with light - delivering a scalable, energy-efficient alternative to transistor-based architectures for next-generation AI and HPC applications. As Q.ANT grows, so does the need for reliable, people-first IT support that keeps every team member productive and connected.

As (Junior) IT Support Specialist, you are the first point of contact for all IT questions and requests at Q.ANT. You resolve day-to-day hardware and software issues, set up workstations, and make sure every new team member hits the ground running from day one. You work closely with the IT team, escalate where needed, and grow into broader IT responsibilities as the company scales.

What You Will Do

  • Be the go-to person for first-level IT support – troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues for our engineers, physicists, and AI specialists, and resolve them efficiently
  • Set up and configure laptops, monitors, and peripherals for new and existing team members – ensuring everyone has the tools they need from day one
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes by preparing and decommissioning IT equipment and user accounts
  • Document all support requests accurately in the ticketing system and follow through until resolution or escalation
  • Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff with full context and relevant information already gathered – you'll be a bridge, not just a handoff
  • Coordinate with external IT vendors and service providers in close alignment with the IT team
  • Learn from the best – work alongside a world-class team of photonics experts, processor designers, and AI engineers in a truly unique environment

Your profile

What You Bring (Required)

  • Solid grounding in at least one major operating system – Windows, macOS, or Linux – at a level sufficient to navigate, troubleshoot, and support end users
  • Familiarity with standard Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for day-to-day user support
  • Strong solution orientation: you approach problems systematically, document your steps, follow through on issues, and communicate clearly with non-technical colleagues throughout
  • Excellent communication skills: you explain IT issues in plain language and keep users informed on the status of their requests
  • Self-starter mindset: you take ownership, follow through, and proactively seek solutions when you take on a task
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken) for end-user support and internal team communication; German is a plus but not required
Nice to have – but don't worry, we'll teach you!
  • Hands-on experience with IT support, helpdesk, or hardware setup (0–2 years)
  • Basic networking knowledge (Wi-Fi, VPN, connectivity troubleshooting)
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems or user account management tools (Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID)

Why us?

  • Hybrid work model: 1–2 days remote work per week – flexibility to balance focus time and team collaboration
  • Competitive compensation & benefits: Fair pay for your skills, 30 days of vacation, and flexible working hours
  • Premium hardware & tools: High-quality laptop (macOS, Windows, or Linux – your choice), dual monitors, and a modern office setup
  • Fast-track your IT career: Grow from first-level support into broader IT responsibilities (system administration, infrastructure, DevOps) as Q.ANT scales – we invest in your development
  • Learn from world-class experts: Work alongside physicists, AI engineers, and photonics specialists – you'll absorb cutting-edge tech knowledge just by being around it
  • Make real impact: Help solve one of computing's biggest challenges – making growing demand in AI and sustainability go hand in hand with photonic processors that are already validated in production HPC environments
  • Direct access to leadership: Work closely with Q.ANT's founders, including CEO Dr. Michael Förtsch, and the senior leadership team
  • Collaborative, international culture: Innovative work environment that values technical excellence, open communication, and pragmatic problem-solving
  • Stuttgart location: Vibrant city with excellent public transport, surrounded by nature, and at the heart of Germany's innovation region
  • Team perks: Regular team events, after-work socials, and a well-stocked office kitchen

About us

Who we are and what we do
Q.ANT is a deep-tech scale-up developing photonic processing solutions that compute natively with light and deliver a scalable alternative to transistor-based systems. The analog co-processors are optimised for complex computations and enable energy-efficient performance for next-generation AI and HPC applications. In collaboration with the Institute for Microelectronics Stuttgart IMS CHIPS, Q.ANT operates its own pilot line for photonic chips, based on the material system Thin-Film Lithium Niobate TFLN. Q.ANT was founded by Michael Förtsch in 2018 and is headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany.
