Senior Systems Engineer – Photonic Circuits & High-Speed Electronics Integration (m/f/d)

Your mission
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in integrating and verifying our advanced photonic and electronic systems to build the next generation computing units. Your responsibilities will extend beyond testing and iterating for Proof of Principle - you’ll be the bridge between our internal experts on Optics, Electronics & Software to bring the system together for high performance and impact. By running experiments on new components and concepts, you’ll contribute directly to the future of our groundbreaking technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Integration & Verification: Lead the assembly, test, and troubleshooting of photonic circuits and high-speed electronic systems (> 1 GHz range) in our labs.
  • Ideation & Experimentation: Design and execute experiments to evaluate new components, and materials.
  • System Optimization: Collaborate with Software & Hardware teams to ensure designs meet performance specifications and identify areas for improvement.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze experimental results and system performance, providing feedback to the R&D and design teams.
Your profile
  • Experience: Proven industry experience in integration and testing with photonic circuit and high-speed electronics (> 1 GHz range), analog and digital.
  • Educational Background: Degree in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering / Physics / Photonics, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Hands-on expertise in lab environments, including testing and troubleshooting.
    • Knowledge of photonic and electronic components  (> 1 GHz range) (e.g., lasers, modulators, fibers, amplifiers, high-speed ADCs/DACs, FPGAs)
    • Proficiency in measurement tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers)
    • Programming for Embedded Applications: C, Python, Control Logic
    • Active contribution to IP
    • Basic knowledge of Software development, Computer Architecture 
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong analytical skills to quickly assess challenges in the lab and make sound, data-driven decisions.
    • Clear and concise communication skills to ensure that goals, tasks, and feedback are understood.
    • The ability to inspire, guide, and support team members while fostering their professional growth.
    • Self-starter with a passion for experimentation and innovation.
    • Project management or coordination experience would be helpful.
